Nettie is short for Anastasia, the name of Paula Lukey's late Ukrainian Grandmother - and the inspiration behind the company. Nettie was a strong, independent character with a flare for doing crazy things like tearing apart old patterned dresses and sewing them up as pillows, curtains and quilts - always keeping her surroundings fresh and original. The creative spirit of Nettie lives on in granddaughter Paula Lukey. She has attended the Alberta College of Art and Design for Visual Communications, and the University of Manitoba for Interior Design. Paula has lived throughout North America and has worked as a designer for such brands as Rossignol, Wired and the Vancouver Film School. Her collected experiences and passion for both graphic and interior design has led to the natural evolution of Nettie. For her collections, Paula combines her eastern european roots of rich colour and textures with a touch of asian minimalism and a tranquil westcoast allure to create pieces that are at once bold yet simple, classic yet modern. |
